In 2010 Meridian Music School voice instructor, Jane West, began directing the Education Department’s Musical Theater Camp at Meridian Music.  She has grown the camp from a group of just five children performing fables to a cast of more than 30 putting on a full-length production with music, sets, costumes, and makeup!  M3 Theatre Camp is a 501©3 Not-For-Profit Organization.  M3 holds fundraisers throughout the year and relies on support from the community to keep the program running.  In 2018 and 2019 M3 Theatre Camp was grateful to be a recipient of an Arts Grant from the City of Carmel.

M3 Theatre Camp’s mission is to help children learn the skills of discipline, teamwork, and creativity through quality programs that allow each child to shine!  M3’s camps are open to children between the ages of 8 and 14.  All students, regardless or past experience or skill level are cast in the summer production.  The camp runs for 3-weeks each June with shows on the last three evenings of camp.

Due to COVID-19 concerns the 2020 M3 Theatre Camp and the production of MOANA, Jr. has been canceled. Instead of camp, the following online workshops will be offered:

Audition Workshop: Jane West will lead an audition workshop that will help prepare students for any audition. Participants will be e-mailed a short Monologue that should be memorized prior to the workshop. In addition, students should have 16 bars of a song sufficiently learned to use for an audition with pre-recorded accompaniment to use in the Zoom workshop. Students will discuss character development and audition song selection. Students will also be given some acting pointers and will be given the opportunity to perform their monologue and 16-bars of music. Miss Jane will follow-up with helpful suggestions. This workshop will help students overcome audition jitters. It will also cover appropriate audition attire and best hair style choices. Each student will receive a recording of the Zoom workshop to keep.

DATE: Saturday, June 20th TIME: 10:00am-12:30pm
DATE: Sunday, June 21st TIME: 1:00-3:30pm
FEE: $65.00
Note: This workshop is limited to 15 people. Please choose just one date that works best for you.

Dialogue And Movement Workshop: Jane west will lead this workshop in which students will work together on dialogue from a Moana, Jr. scene. Lines will be interchanged to give everyone a chance at “trying on” and developing different characters. We will discuss becoming a character and not just memorizing lines. We will also discuss movement; what’s too “big” and what’s not enough. Facial expression will be emphasized as so much these days is being done virtually through Zoom and other electronic mediums. Students will also learn techniques for how to memorize dialogue and music. Each student will receive a recording of the Zoom workshop to keep.

DATE: Saturday, June 27th TIME: 2:00-4:30pm
FEE: $65.00

Island Culture Workshop: In this workshop, led by Taina Lance, students will learn about the culture of the Polynesian Islands through stories, cooking, and movement activities.

DATE: Wednesday, July 9th TIME: 10:00am-11:00am FEE: $50.00

Set-Design Workshop: Joyce Buchholz will lead this workshop in which students will create a model of a theatre and stage set for Moana, Jr. Steps include designing and drawing a backdrop and creating sets for your characters. Materials will be emailed in PDF format for you to print at home. Students will need glue, scissors, lightweight cardboard (like empty cereal boxes, 3-4 would be optimal), about 12-15 reasonably straight twigs of even length, coloring mediums (like colored pencils, crayons, watercolor paint, or markers), black construction paper (or any sheet of black paper to create a floor for the stage), notebook paper, pencil and eraser. We recommend that your child watch the movie Moana before attending the workshop so they have some familiarity with the different scenes in the show.

DATE & TIME: scheduled by teacher and parents  FEE: $65.00
