Jane West has more than 30 years performing and teaching experience. She has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from Butler University and has performed in Opera, Oratorio and Musical Theater throughout the State of Indiana and the Baltic Countries with the Indianapolis Opera Company, the Indiana Opera Theater, Indianapolis Civic Theater, Anderson Summer Music Festival and the Christian Theological Seminary Theater to name a few. However, she found her true passion 30 years ago when she was tapped to teach private voice and piano lessons in the IPS Performing Arts Magnet. Since then she has taught those subjects plus Music Theory and Piano Keyboard Class in grades 5 through 12 and also served on the Music Faculty at now, Marian University. Jane especially enjoys helping students (of all ages) find their dramatic center enabling them to become the performers they dream they can be. Her teaching philosophy is twofold: A) Music is a language. In order to speak it, one must be able to read it! B) Music (to many) is life, itself. The student of music must be allowed to have fun with learning. Students should be encouraged, challenged, and above all nurtured in this magnificent relationship with music!
