Playing piano is Garri’s first love, having begun lessons at the age of 5. His studies continued throughout all four years of college under Dr. Reginald Rodgers, including in 2002 when he performed with a full orchestra as Anderson University’s Concerto Aria competition winner. He holds an M.A. in Music from Ball State where he studied piano with Dr. James Helton and earned an M.F.A. in Recording Arts and Technologies from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018. Garri’s love for playing music was cultivated as a youth when performing regularly in churches with the George Family Band. He continues to perform in churches, for weddings and other events, and currently serves as accompanist at Ball State and elsewhere. As an educator, Garri taught piano at Meridian Music for nearly 10 years and is an experienced tutor of undergraduate musicianship. In addition, he has taught other college-level courses including music appreciation and group piano. Any student with a desire, Garri believes, has the ability to learn music. As such, he seeks to tailor lessons to individual learning styles and interests. In the end, he feels that learning music should be a fun and rewarding experience.
